The Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute and the Gujarat Cancer Society has celebrated Dr. T. B. Patel centenary celebration's closing function and Hospital day on April 19, 2008 . In the wake of encouraging young scientists to portray their ability for scientific presentation, the institute holds a competition of young scientists. They are awarded with medals. This year the T. B. Patel Gold Medal was won by Dr. Pooja Nandwani Patel and the Silver awards were won by Dr. Anjana Chauhan and Ms. Hetvi Patel. These presenters were judged by Dr. Sharad Vyas (Surgeon), Dr. Himanshu Shah (Anesthetist) and Dr. Nita Shrivastava (Scientist from Basic sciences). |
The main attractions of the program were: (i) Dr. T. B. Patel Oration and (ii) Shri Ramniklal J. Kinarivala Cancer Research Award. Dr. T. B. Patel oration was delivered by Dr. K. S. Gopinath, Bangalore for his achievements in Surgical oncology. He delivered a lecture on ‘Beyond Mere feasibility Challenges in Oncology to Oncologists' . Shri Ramniklal J. Kinarivala award winner of the year was Dr. T. Rajkumar, Chennai. He is an eminent Molecular Oncologist from Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai. He delivered a lecture on ‘Recent Advances in Molecular Oncology – Cancer institute (WIA) Experience' . |
Dr. T. B. Patel Centenary Year Celebration closing function, Felicitation and Award presentation function was welcomed by Shri Prashant kinarivala, General Sectretary, Gujarat Cancer Society and Dr. Pankaj M. Shah, Director, GCRI. The audio visual show narrated the life of Dr. T. B. Patel (the founder Director and the then Director, Health Services, Gujarat State ). After narration of the scientific theme of the celebrations by Dr. Shilin Shukla, the medals were presented to the winners and the Oration awardees were felicitated. The trophies for maximum number of publications by the department were then awarded. ‘Vibha Mehta rotating trophy' was won this year by Biochemistry Research Division while ‘Vimala Agarwal rotating trophy' was won by Surgical Oncology department. The ‘Guests of Honour' – Dr. J. N. Patel (Ex Professor of Medicine and Ex Dean, B. J. Medical College ) and Dr. Nathubhai Patel (Ex Professor of Medicine, B. J. Medical College and ex Director, Cardiology Institute) addressed the gathering. The GCRI members (around 30, who had done a commanding job or won the awards were felicitated on the occasion. In addition, the retired employees (20 employees during the current year) were felicitated. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Kshitish Madanmohan, Secretary GCS. The annual day celebrations came to an end with a cultural program by the staff members. |
