Community Oncology Centre:

Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute believes that the only way to fight cancer problem in the country like India with its limited resources is to spread scientific information to the public at large and to educate people regarding the role of early diagnosis and preventive aspects. With this main objective in mind a Community Oncology Centre at Vasana Complex has been established.

 
PREVENTIVE ONCOLOGY CLINICS:

These Clinics are designed to provide basic facilities for Cancer Detection for men & Women, head & neck examination, breast examination, PAP Test etc. It will run regularly during week days. Faculty members from GCRI will provide their services.

The clinic already has established Lab facility as well as X-ray Machine. Mammography, Coloposcope, Endoscopy and Ultra Sonography facility will be made available. There will be regular demonstration for educating women in the technique of Self Breast Examination.

 
CANCER INSURANCE POLICY:

The Cancer Insurance Policy Scheme is jointly planned and launched with the New India Assurance Company Limited. The policy would provide medical coverage against cancer. This policy would be made available at the centre.

 
DE-ADDICTION CLINIC:

There will be a special de-addiction clinic for tobacco & Alcohol related habits.

 
BLOOD COLLECTION CENTRE:

The main Cancer Institute requires around 300 units of blood for the patients undergoing advanced surgical procedures or chemotherapy treatment. There is also plan for Bone Marrow Transplantation program at GCRI. To meet this requirement of blood for the Cancer Institute, the Community Oncology Centre will run a permanent Blood Collection & Donation Drive at Vasana. It is planned to involve Social Groups like the Lions, Rotaracts, Colleges and Institutes for this purpose To encourage this drive the Centre will register atleast 20-30 donors per day who will agree to donate their blood every year on the schedule fixed at the centre.

 
PUBLICATION & SALES:

This would be a small sales outlet for various cancer related materials published by the GCS and GCRI. There is a proposal to also put on display and sale of paintings, puppets, and other artifacts produced by the some paediatric patients.


HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CENTRE :

In the Southern part of city, the institute has 10,000 sq. yd. space alloted to hospice and palliative care center. This activity will be carried out in the 5 cottages. These cottages are well planned and self-sustained and can accommodate 10 terminally ill cancer patients. This activity would be supported with the help of various socio-religious groups and practicing family physicians.

 

CONVENTION FACILITIES

The complex with it's well planned & maintained Building, Lawn, an open air theatre, and a newly developed cafeteria, would provide excellent facilities for holding scientific conventions.

CANCER EXHIBITION CENTRE :

The institute has established a permanent exhibition on cancer which will provide education to school and college students and public at large. Our Community Oncology Center at Vasana is gaining popularity very fast and the number of people taking advantage of its various facilities is increasing. We offer here health check up at a nominal charge. We are conducting De addiction Clinic with the help of Psychiatrists. We also offer Cancer Insurance at one time premium of Rs.2000 that covers the risk for a couple upto Rs.50,000.

The aim of this centre is to import scientific information on cancer related topics to the common man, school and college going students, undergraduates & post graduates medical students. It would also impart cancer information to the nurses, medical & paramedical professional, Social-workers & agencies, doctors and specialists.

The Exhibition is planned out to give basic information on cancer and is divided into various sections.

The exhibition is in simple bilingual text. Accompanied with illustrations, Graphs, Maps & Photographs. On display would be some cancer detection equipments and models, specimens, comparative display of various imaging techniques from X-Ray, CT Scan, Sonography etc.

RESOURCES CENTRE (LIBRARY)

The Resource centre has obtained various books, leaflets, charts & posters. There are from the in-house collection at GCRI, as well as from other organizations, national & international.

AUDIO-VISUAL

It has a good collection of videos on cancer topics for its Audio-Visual section. This section can accommodate a batch of 25 to 30 students. It is equipped with an state of art video projection system.

DEMONSTRATIONS & LECTURES

The demonstration Section has also obtained various anatomical models. It has also live demonstration models for Breast Self Examination and Oral Cancer, effect of smoking on the lungs. It also plans to produce some simple models to explain various cancers.

DISPLAY MUSEUM

This is the section for doctors, medical students, paramedical workers, nursing students and specialist. This section would have detailed scientific information and notes.

Imaging Technique Display:
X-ray, CT Scan, MRI, Sonographs, Mammographs, etc.

Biological Display:
On display would be some of the tumor specimens.
